Skills for Their Future programme puts girls in the picture

Categories: UK EDUCATION NEWS

We’re marking International Girls in ICT Day by spotlighting our digital technology skills project at schools in Tanzania.

Eager to learn new skills, these girls are finding out how to create and edit video and photography content at a school in Tanzania. They were among a group of students taking part in a visual content workshop with videographer Imani Nsamila as part of Theirworld’s Skills for Their Future. The programme works to empower girls and young women by helping them gain digital, coding and entrepreneurship skills.

Today is International Girls in ICT (information and communications technology) Day. All this week we’re spotlighting our project in Tanzania, in partnership with BRAC Tanzania. On our social media channels, we’ve been featuring student testimonials and a range of photos and videos created by them using their newfound skills. Jackline Bruno Kisinda, a student at Karibuni Secondary School, said: “I will use these skills to explore various technology opportunities to earn money and employ myself, to fight against poverty in my family as well as my country.”

Skills for Their Future sees Theirworld partner with local organisations across Africa and the Middle East to help end the digital gender divide and give thousands of girls and young women the technology skills they need to succeed. The programme also helps schools deliver quality education and local companies offer work opportunities.
